The Highs and Lows of Potty Training

Any advice for the potty training mom? Hunter's been doing great with the potty training, well, that is during about half the day. For the last several days he doesn't do so well in the middle of the day having several "accidents". But for the other half of the day he does fantastic. He goes in the potty, we do our potty dance and we clap after we watch it get flushed down the real potty. How do you teach them to tell you they have to go potty? Is there a secret I'm missing?

2nd Lieutenant Ryan Hignight

Ryan got "pinned" tonight as a 2nd lieutenant in the United States Army Reserve. His unit pulled him out of his IT class in Geogia and brought him home for 13 hours this weekend. Almost as quick as he got here he was sent to Wisconsin to meet with the unit. Here's a picture of Ryan getting sworn in as a 2nd lieutenant. Hunter and I are so proud of him!!

Daddy's Home, well... for 13 hours.

After a 2 day drive, Ryan came home from Georgia on Saturday. Hunter was sooooo excited to see his daddy! Well I was too for that matter, Ryan looked fantastic. Ryan and Hunter got to spend some quality time together with lots of story reading. Here's a picture of the two of them.

First vacation to the beach

Here are some pictures of Ryan and Hunter at the beach on Mustang Island. Ryan was able to fly down from Georgia to spend Memorial weekend with us. Hunter loved the beach! He had no fear of the water and walked out into the ocean as far out as he could stand up.

Hunter and Uncle Scott at our first trip to the zoo

Hunter loved his first trip to the zoo back in June, although I'm not sure what he liked more the animals or his little red wagon.

Super Genius or Beginners Luck?

I've heard of people potty training their kids young and some of them get it and some of them don't. Well mom tells me that my uncle Ron was potty trained by 1 (crazy!) . I thought I would give Hunter a shot at it and see if he just picks it up and if he doesn't well, we'll try again in a month or so. So a few times today I asked him if he needed to go potty and we would go to his little toilet (thanks to auntie gabe for the very cool soccer toilet) and sit on it. Alas nothing happened other than a few giggles. So before we took our shower tonight I put him on the toilet again with no luck. (Ususally he pees at least once when he's in the shower.) After 30 mins of playing in the tub he started acting like he was ready to get out so I figured, what the heck, and put him straight from the tub onto his potty. What did my ears hear less than 30 seconds after sitting on the toilet? (Insert some Grunting here). I couldn't believe my ears, he pooped in the potty. After some high fives and good jobs we were very proud we got to flush our little potty, to the sound effect provided by the toilet, GOOOOAAAALL!! Super Genius or Beginners Luck? I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Look Mommy, there's something in my bath tub

On Sunday night I'm answering an email on my phone while Hunter is taking a shower/bath. All of a sudden I hear "UH OH" "UH OH" I look up at Hunter in the tub and he's pointing down in the bottom of the tub, saying "UH OH" over and over. So I look in the tub and there is some yucky green poop in the bottom of the tub. At least he knew it wasn't supposed to be there this time. Last time he pooped in the tub he was stomping on it and giggling to himself. Gotta love kids, they're so disgusting!
